Every Monday (or first day of the week) I will send home your child's homework folder. Included in this folder will be:
1. Spelling words
2. Spelling recording sheet
3. Drops in the bucket sheet (one side math, one side L.A.)
This folder is due on FRIDAY. Please make sure you always put your homework folder in your backpack, so you won't forget it.
Spelling Words
Each week your child will bring home a new list of words. These words are in card format. Please cut out the words and store them in a baggie for the week. Each night, (Tuesday-Thursday) your child needs to sort these words according to the directions on the paper.
On Tuesday nights the students need to sort their words accoriding to the sort that I have taught them in class. They then need to record it on the homework sheet.
On Wednesday nights the students need to have a timer or a friend to count. This is a timed sort. The students sort their words correctly as fast as they can. Then record their time. They need to do it a 2nd time trying to beat their previous time. For this sort, all that needs to be recorded are the times.
On Thursdays, spelling homework is a pretest. A parent or sibling will read the words one at a time to the child. The child then writes the words on the paper. Please correct the test, if words have been missed please have them practice them in the space provided.
Drops in the Bucket
The drops in the bucket review sheets are just like the ones from 2nd grade. Some of the concepts will be new, but most will be reviewed before the homework is sent home. If you ever come across a strange problem that you can't figure out, please just circle it and send it back on Friday.
These pages do not need to be done on a certain day, please just make sure they are completed and corrected before returning on Friday.
At the beginning of the month you will also find:
1. A newsletter
2. Reading calendar
Reading Calendar
Each night your child needs to be reading at least 20 minutes. I only require the students to read on weekdays, but it is a great habit to continue on the weekend. Please initial on the calendar the days you have read.
Please sign the bottom of the reading calendar and return on the 1st of the following month.
Book Projects
Each month with the reading calendar, a book project will be sent home. Please have your child read a book that is on their reading level. When they finish the book, have them complete the project. This needs to be their best work, and can be turned in as soon as it is finished.
Homework Club
At the end of each month, I will check to see who has turned in all of their homework including book projects and reading calendars. The students who have turned it all in will be allowed to go to homework club. This is a fun reward for those who participate. Please make sure that if you forget your homework on Friday, that you bring it the following Monday.
