Spelling Sort

This week I have introduced "Words Their Way" spelling to our class. This program teaches spelling patterns at each student's level. This week, the class is using the same sort as I teach the kids how to do it. Next week the class will be grouped into smaller groups with students who have the same spelling ability.

Sorting the words can be confusing at the beginning. Each Monday I will meet with the groups and teach them how to sort. If you ever have a question at home while doing homework, please email me and let me know.

This week the students are working on Long A and Short A vowel patterns. The "category" cards are the cards the students use to sort. Some will look like this: CVC (consonant, vowel, consonant)

{Me Bags}

Throughout next week we will be sharing our "Me Bags". I have sent home a brown bag with each child. They can put up to 5 items in the bag to describe themselves to the class. They can also decorate the bag however they would like. Below are some pictures of what my bag and items looked like. Please make sure that your child knows what they are going to say about their items, and why they are important to them!

Back to School Night

Vineyard Elementary Back to School Open House:

Tuesday August 24th 5:00-7:00p.m

Meet in the gym for an important parent meeting from 5-5:30p.m. and then come introduce yourself to me between 5:30-7:00p.m.

Here is a list of items that will be helpful for your child to have in our class. They are not required, but if your child wants to shop for school supplies these items will be helpful to them and the class.

• Dry Erase Markers (1-2 preferably black)
• Glue Sticks
• Hand Sanitizer
• A box of Kleenex

This year we are asking for a $15.00 class donation to cover the cost of supplies, incentives, special projects and hopefully field trips. The amount of money we receive determines the activities we are able to plan. Donations will be accepted at Back To School Night or at your earliest convenience. Please make checks payable to Vineyard Elementary.
